Get to know us

E. Armata is a family run fruit and produce wholesaler in the Hunts Point Market that has been in business for over 100 years. With a modest start in Manhattan at the Washington Street Market, E. Armata is now one of the largest wholesalers operating in Hunts Point and is proud to now be in the 4th generation stage. E. Armata takes great pride in managing the company with integrity and the highest quality product available for all our customers – be they a large retail customer, institutional supplier, or small grocers who visit the Hunts Point Market for quality produce.

Over the last century, E. Armata has prospered as a leader among produce distributors in the tri-state area. Our brand prides itself on having a family tradition of loyalty to customers and partnerships with farmers and growers that span generations. We work with the most recognizable brands of fresh produce in the industry, as well as offering our own E. Armata label.

Our History

It all started with a lemon…

Our Founder Erasmo Armata came from Sicily in the late 1890’s through Ellis Island as a poor immigrant. Erasmo settled in Manhattan and frequented the Fruit Auction in lower Manhattan (later the location of the World Trade Center) where he purchased lemons and sold them out of a burlap bag he carried on his back as he walked the streets of Manhattan.

Our Produce

We work with the most recognizable brands of fresh produce in the industry, as well as offering our own E. Armata label.

What People Say

I started in May 1990, when E. Armata was a small store from 111-117. We only had two straight jobs and four drivers. Now we have 25 units and a whole fleet of trucks. It’s a great feeling to be part of the growth of this company.

Warren Employee

I have been working at E. Armata as a forklift operator for 18 years, and throughout all of the success and growth, one part that has stayed consistent is how respectful everyone is. Chris still comes to say ‘good morning old man’ to me (even though he is only one year younger than me).

Woody Employee

Our company has been buying and selling to E. Armata for many years. They have built a fantastic reputation based not only on their excellent quality, but more importantly on their integrity. Everyone at E. Armata genuinely understands that it could take a lifetime to build a good reputation and a split second to lose it all. You will always be treated right at E. Armata.

Working with E. Armata has been an absolute pleasure. Their honesty, integrity, and hard work make them one of the best companies to work with in the industry. They are very fair with both customers and suppliers to build long-term, lasting relationships and we consider ourselves lucky to be a part of their current and future success.

As a former USDA inspector, I have seen and dealt with many companies here at Hunts Point Market. The people and the top-class facilities are what makes working at E. Armata a pleasure. They are hard working, honest and fair people who are passionate about the business. Being at E. Armata isn’t just being part of a team but a part of a family.
